About Boarding Up Staines, Your Local Boarding Up Company
Boarding Up Staines is an independent boarding up company in Staines. We secure broken windows, forced doors, damaged shopfronts, roofs and empty properties so they can’t be entered. We have over 10 years’ experience, we’re fully insured, and we’re DBS-checked. A person answers the phone 24 hours a day, and we can attend at any hour, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
Who we are
We trade as Boarding Up Staines and we do one kind of work: making openings secure when a property has been damaged or left empty. Our customers include householders after a break-in, shop owners with a cracked or smashed front, landlords and letting agents with a void property, and anyone dealing with the aftermath of a storm or fire.
People ring us at difficult moments. Our job is to help you decide what needs doing and then do it properly.
How we work
The call
When you ring, a person answers. We’ll ask:
- Your postcode, so we can work out when we can reach you
- What’s damaged: window, door, shopfront, roof or skylight
- Rough sizes and how many openings there are
- Height and access: ground floor, upper floor, or something that needs ladders
- Whether the frame or door is damaged as well as the glass
- Photographs, if you can take them safely. Don’t go near broken glass or anything unstable to get a picture.
We give you an arrival time based on your postcode during that call. We don’t publish a standard response time, because it depends on where you are and what’s already booked.
The quote
The quote is free and clear, and you get it on the call before any work starts. The price depends on the number and size of openings, height and access, the materials and board thickness, the fixings, whether a damaged door or frame needs securing first, and whether there’s debris or glass to make safe. Our pricing page explains these factors in more detail.
The visit
Our van carries boarding stock and fixings. On site, we make the area safe, measure, cut and fit the boards, and check that each opening is secure. You’ll know what we’ve done before we leave.
What we board up
We board windows, doors, shopfronts, roofs and skylights. We also secure vacant and void properties. That covers homes, shops, offices, restaurants and warehouses. Each service has its own page in our boarding up services section.
Boarding makes the property secure so that the permanent repair can follow. A glazier, door fitter or roofer then does that work at a sensible pace, without the property being exposed in the meantime.
Materials and fixings
Most openings are covered with exterior-grade plywood, usually 18mm thick. For smaller openings we may use OSB. Where the property needs extra security, such as an empty building or a shop at street level, we use security or anti-tamper fixings that are hard to remove from outside.
Where the frame is sound enough, we fix the boards without causing more damage. This keeps the later repair simpler. If a frame or door has been badly damaged, we explain the options to you first. A board is only as secure as the frame it’s fixed to, so a split frame or a door hanging off its hinges sometimes needs securing before it can be boarded.
Older buildings in Staines
Staines has a lot of older property. The council’s conservation area appraisal says that most of the town’s surviving historic buildings date from the 19th century, and that its 18th-century buildings are mainly along Church Street and near the church. It also describes villas and smaller terraces around Knowle Green, with more housing along London Road, the west end of Gresham Road and Kingston Road.
If your windows or door frames are original, tell us on the call. Older timber frames need care, and we’ll discuss how to fix the boards with as little extra damage as the frame allows. The same applies to shopfronts in older commercial buildings, such as those around the High Street and Market Square.
Paperwork for your insurer
If you’re claiming on your insurance, we provide:
- An itemised invoice
- Time-stamped photographs from before and after the work
- A written statement of the work we did
Your insurer decides what is covered. We’re not loss adjusters or legal advisers, but our records are clear and set out in a way that’s straightforward to pass on. After a break-in, report it to the police, keep the crime reference number and contact your insurer. Our insurance claims guide covers this step by step.
Insured and DBS-checked
We’re fully insured, and you can ask us for a copy of the certificate. We’re also DBS-checked. That matters when we’re working inside someone’s home, in a tenant’s flat, or at a property on an agent’s behalf.
Where we work
We cover Staines and the surrounding area, including Stanwell, Egham and Ashford, Surrey. We also cover Laleham, Stanwell Moor and Wraysbury, subject to confirming your address on the call. See our areas we cover for the full list.
